Designed in 1969 by Afra and Tobia Scarpa, the Soriana rewrote the history of upholstered furniture. For the first time, a chair with no internal support structure, its form held entirely by the grip of an external metal clamp embracing the foam and fabric within. In 1970 it was awarded the Compasso d'Oro as a masterpiece of complexity achieved through simple tools. The red metal frame against the beige cloth is the Soriana as it was intended — the tension between the soft, generous upholstery and the precise steel structure is the whole point of the design.

Current Cassina production (2025) in excellent condition with minimal signs of use.Two castors on the base make it easy to move despite its generous proportions. As close to new as a Soriana gets.
