Designed in 1995, the Rocket is one of the later and more unexpected pieces from Eero Aarnio — a designer far better known for his work with plastics. It was originally made for his own kitchen, until it caught the eye of Tom Dixon during his time as Artek's Head of Design, who brought it into the collection. The three-legged tapered form in solid oak is immediately recognisable and manages to feel both functional and playful without trying too hard.

This example is in white lacquer, worn through in places to show the natural oak beneath — which gives it a relaxed, lived-in quality that suits the character of the piece.
