First presented at the Milan Triennale in 1933, the Armchair 402 is one of Aalto's most refined chair designs — a cantilevered birch frame that flexes gently under the sitter, combined with a slightly reclined back that allows for relaxed comfort without losing an upright posture. Also known as the Atelje, it is lighter and more versatile than the famous Tank chair, and has been in continuous production at Artek ever since. This example is upholstered in black fabric with white stripes, giving it a graphic quality that suits the clean geometry of the frame well.
Good vintage condition with signs of use consistent with age. Frame and upholstery both intact and solid. New images updated soon. In the meantime, please contact us for further details.
